Methoxyfenozide has minimal effects on replacement queens but may negatively affect sperm storage

چکیده
Abstract Honey bees are incidentally exposed to pesticides such as the insect growth regulator methoxyfenozide (MEOF) during crop pollination, exposures that extend into hive via contaminated stored food. We examined sublethal effects of MEOF-contaminated pollen and queen cell wax on replacement development. MEOF-exposed colonies were largely able produce queens similar physiological reproductive quality unexposed colonies. Newly established did not differ in their body mass, ovariole development, or protein fatty acid contents ovaries fat bodies. MEOF control had glandular mandibular pheromone (QMP) retinue (QRP) compounds. However, less sperm spermathecae than queens. Given productivity is ultimately limited by availability, contamination might shorten functional lifespan

Interleukin-8 but Not Interleukin-6 Variant May Affect Susceptibility to Brucellosis
Background: Increased levels of interleukin-8 (IL-8) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in acute human brucellosis have been reported. Previous studies have shown that the production and level of IL-6 and IL-8 cytokines are associated with the polymorphism of the encoding genes. Objective: To investigate the probable association between IL-6 (-174 C/G) and IL-8 (-251 A/T) gene polymorphisms and susceptib...
متن کاملEffects of Frozen Diluents on Storage of Ram Sperm
Semen collection evaluation and addition of preservatives to increase storage period of sperm are essential for successful artificial insemination. This study was conducted on 4rams (2 Ghezel Merinos and 2 Merinos Moghani) to evaluate the effect of two diluents in Khalatposhan research station. Average age of rams was 3 years. Rams were trained to serve the artificial insemination and semen sam...

متن کاملHoney bee males and queens use glandular secretions to enhance sperm viability before and after storage.
Internal fertilization requires live sperm to be transferred from male to female before egg fertilization. Both males and females assist the insemination process by providing sperm with glandular secretions, which have been inferred to contain subsets of proteins that maintain sperm viability. Here we show that in the honeybee (Apis mellifera) secretions of the male accessory glands, the major ...
متن کاملP-1: Morphine Has Detrimental Effects on Sperm Parameters, Chromatin Quality and DNA Integrity in Mice
Background Morphine as a natural alkaloid (opiate) is considered as one of the problems associated with poor semen production and sperm quality. For the first time, this experimental study was carried out to evaluate the impact of intra-peritoneal injection of morphine on sperm parameters, chromatin quality and DNA integrity of spermatozoa aspirated from cauda epididymis of mice. MaterialsAndMe...
